Social and character learning guide

Social & Character activities use everyday situations to discuss empathy, responsibility, cooperation, safety and asking for help. Not every real-life situation has one answer that fits every family, so each question works best as the beginning of a conversation. Adults can explain the rules that apply at home or school after the child makes a choice.

What this practises

  • Ask why the child chose an action, not only whether it was marked correct.
  • Distinguish problems a child can handle independently from situations that require adult help.
  • Use realistic examples without shaming the child for earlier mistakes.

Role-play a short situation such as borrowing an item, apologising, refusing something unsafe or asking for help when lost. Afterwards, discuss which words felt clear and respectful and which trusted adults the child could approach.

Adapt the activity to the child’s age and readiness. If the child becomes tired or loses interest, stop and return another time.
