Indonesian language learning guide

Indonesian language practice focuses on spelling, word meaning, punctuation and clear sentence order. Children choose standard spellings, recognise relationships such as synonyms and antonyms, and read sentences carefully. The activities can be used as a short warm-up before reading, journalling or schoolwork.

What this practises

  • Read words and sentences aloud so the child hears the connection between sound and writing.
  • Ask the child to make a new sentence after learning the meaning of a word.
  • When a word is unfamiliar, use the surrounding sentence to infer meaning before explaining it directly.

After the activity, collect a few words from books, labels or signs. Check capital letters and punctuation, then use one or two of the words in a new sentence. Children who enjoy storytelling can write or say three sentences in sequence about their day.

Adapt the activity to the child’s age and readiness. If the child becomes tired or loses interest, stop and return another time.
