Using the Social & Character generator

The Social & Character generator presents situations involving empathy, responsibility, cooperation, rules, safety and diversity. Because social choices depend on context, each question works best as a discussion starter. Educators can adapt the wording and rules to fit the home or school setting.

Things to consider

  • Ask for the reason behind a choice and allow discussion of more than one safe solution.
  • Use examples that do not shame a child or expose sensitive experiences.
  • For safety topics, make clear when a child should seek adult help immediately.

Follow-up idea

After the questions, use a short role-play or ask the learner to create a sentence they could use in a real situation, such as requesting permission, cooperating, apologising or asking for help.
